The Thakurgaon Sugar Mills Ltd ঠাকুরগাঁও চিনিকল লিমিটেড is a Government Sugar Mill of Bangladesh. This is the only heavy industry in Thakurgaon and have a great influence on the economy of Thakurgaon District. Thakurgaon Sugar Mill is a sugar refinery in Rangpur Division of Bangladesh.

Location: The Thakurgaon Sugar Mills Ltd is located at Horihorpur of Thakurgaon Road of Thakurgaon Pourosava of Bangladesh. It is near the Thakurgaon Railway station at a distance of about 5 km from Thakurgaon town. Thakurgaon Sugar Mills Ltd is close to Naya Haat, Thakurgaon Railway Station and Munshir Haat.

A study on the agricultural mechanization in selected farms of Thakurgaon Sugar Mills Ltd:

Mechanized cultivation plays significant role in sugarcane production in Bangladesh. A study was conducted in the Thakurgaon Sugar Mills Ltd farms in Thakurgaon District as an undergraduate project work in the Department of Farm Power and Machinery, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh.

Modernisation of Thakurgaon Sugar Mills Ltd on anvil: The government has taken an initiative to modernise Thakurgaon Sugar Mills Ltd in a bid to reduce its ‘process loss’ through replacing its old machinery and introducing another option for sugar production from beet sugar alongside boosting its output from sugarcane.

Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) under the Ministry of Industries will implement the project at a cost of Tk 101.53 crore to be completed by June 2016. Planning Ministry sources said the main objectives of the project are to replace the old machinery keeping intact its installed sugarcane crushing capacity.

On 2014-2015 ( Ref. -Bangladesh Daily Observer, December 20, 2014 ):
A source of the mills said, in the current season, 5,800 metric tons of sugarcane would be produced by crushing 80,000 metric tons of sugarcane. The targeted sugar recovery is 7.25% in 90 days. The source further said that at present about 6,280 acres of sugarcane are awaiting harvest in the field.

At present, the sugarcane price fixed by the Sugar Corporation is Tk 100 per maund (40 kg). But the farmers demanded Tk 150 per maund, said Central Sugarcane Farmers' Association President Ruhul Amin. He further said if the sugar corporation fixes sugarcane price at Tk 150 per maund and the mills can assure the payment of sugarcane to the farmers regularly then the supply of sugarcane in the mills would be assured.

The Managing Director of the mills SM Abdul Aziz said in the current sugarcane plantation season the mills fixed up a target of 12,000 acres of land in the mills zone. For this the mills disbursed a loan of about Tk 5 crorers to 5,500 farmers of the mills zone in terms of seed, fertiliser and pesticide.
